Welcome Program

Lecture Period from 7 October 2013- 1 February 2014

There will be a crash course in German offered from 9 to 27 September, four mornings a week  If you wish to attend the course, let us know, we will then book a room for you starting 1 September. You should aim to arrive during the first week of September. There are two other matters you should be aware of: the dormitory rental office is open Monday and Tuesday 9-12 noon, Thursday 9-12 noon and 2-4 PM. If you arrive outside of these times, you will have to spend a night in a hostel. If this cannot be avoided then keep in mind that the sooner we know when you will be arriving, the more likely it is we can find a cheap room for that night.

While the course is running, we will escort you through the various bureaucratic steps to get you settled in Bonn and registered with the university.

The welcome program consists of

  • Crash Course in German
  • Escort through the bureaucratic "maze"
  • Wednesdays - tours to local attractions.
  • Welcome Coffee for the participants in the Welcome Program in the meeting room of the Villa Maria, Endenicher Allee 62.
  • Early October - Welcome meeting and introductory session for the new students in the Master program.
  • Early November "Welcome to the New Term"-party for all BIGS PhD students after the Plücker lecture (date t.b.a.)

 

Lecture Period from 8 April 2013- 19 July 2013

Note that Easter is celebrated from 29 March to 1 April. This means that except for Saturday shops will be shut, offices closed and public transportation reduced. Therefore aim to arrive on 2 April. There are two other matters you should be aware of: the dormitory rental office is open Monday and Tuesday 9-12 noon, Thursday 9-12 noon and 2-4 PM. Our Welcome Week will begin on 2 April and will consist of accomanying you to the various offices to get you through the administrative steps required to get you settled.

Lecture Period from 2 April 2012 to 13 July 2012

Since the April term 2012 starts on an inconvenient date, 2 April 2012, our Welcome Program will begin on 29 March. You are expected to participate in this program. We will escort you through the various administrative steps to get you settled in Bonn, before the term starts. Students who do not arrive in time, will not be escorted.

Due to the difficult date, we will book rooms at the Bonn Youth Hostel. We expect you to arrive on Wednesday 28 March (at the latest). We will meet on Thursday 29 March to start the tour of the offices.

Detailed information will be sent to those students whose application is successful.

  • Wednesdays - tours with members of the Bachelor-Master office or the BIGS-Mathematics office to local attractions.
  • 8 September, 15:00 (3 PM), Welcome Coffee for the participants in the Welcome Program in the meeting room of the Villa Maria, Endenicher Allee 62.
  • Early October - Welcome meeting and introductory session for the new students in the Master program.
  • 11 November 2011, 17:00 (5 PM) onward, "Welcome to the New Term"-party for all BIGS PhD students after the Plücker lecture (part two - see the events page)  in the Hausdorff room, Plücker room and Lobby of the Mathematics Center.
